Six years have
passed since “The Rosewater Park Legends” was released. However,
the band was not on vacation. I remember talking to Kjetil
Ytterus and he told me that immediately after the debut release,
they were already thinking about the next album and writing new
songs.
This return is giant and even more sophisticated. Songs like
these are not written from one day to another as they require a
lot of dedication. “My Plateau” is a monumental expression of
extreme symphonic metal with black metal roots in which you will
not find linear structures because the chord progression raises
their level and turns the work into something outstanding.
“My Plateau” begins violently and takes us by surprise.
Its intricate manifestations show us a dark world through which
we will walk towards a complex universe. The theatrical essence
is still present like in “The Rosewater Park Legends” but the
atmosphere is more passionate…!!. The ending is great.!
“Moribund” is more classic and its tempos are broken. The
spectrum given by the orchestral keyboards emerge from the
background like a spine, and the guitars kick, breaking the
atmosphere. Are the lyrics torments from a past life? agony
equals pleasure.
“Fragments Of Dirge” hits us with its guitar sounds and
the chaotic structure results unexpected and unpredictable, but
intelligent at the same time because everything finally has a
balance. The black metal voice is extreme like the atmosphere
around. A quiet touch at 02:35 is perceived, where the guitar
makes a subtle but necessary arrangement to board a nostalgic
passage for a few seconds before chaos, which is beautiful.
“Righteous Indoctrination” in a more symphonic black
metal style but it's not possible to perceive any influence. The
keyboards work is exquisite and epic with gothic brushwork as
well as the drums which are bestial and titanic.
"Disambiguate Eradication” perhaps for us, one of the
best songs..! It is a beautiful and dramatic piece with a lot of
cinematographic sensations. Its changes are majestic and the
structure is more minimalistic into the Profane Burial universe.
“Horror Code” opens a door in its dense dawn with a
sinister atmosphere that fades and asks for "darkness to come".
A great piece to close the album, a great somber moment.
I must say that there are few bands as PROFANE BURIAL. Their
music is special and listening to it is a great challenge for
demanding ears.
There are more
people making extreme metal in present days than in those
glorious days, but not many that make a difference,
unfortunately. I can’t compare Profane Burial with anything I've
heard. However, I'm sure that soon we will be able to say that
other extreme metal bands will have influences from them...!!
PROFANE BURIAL
is sublime...!
